Once again, on Saturday 13th September, the Cousland Smiddy will be part of Midlothian's annual Doors Open Day. Following the format of previous years our resident farrier, Sean Broadfoot, will be giving live demonstrations of his shoemaking skills as well as performing live shoeing of horses in the morning and afternoon.
The restored Smiddy Cottage, dating back to at least 1703, will also be open to visitors, and our team of local history experts will be on hand to give a fascinating insight into days gone by.
Finally there will be the usual array of games, produce from the organic allotments within the grounds, refreshments and local baking.
We would really welcome any support you can give, whether that is the through the donation of produce or baking (please include a list of ingredients if you do), to support on the the day, or just to come and visit on what is a really important day for the Cousland Smiddy and History Hub.
Produce and baking donations can be dropped off at the Smiddy, either on the afternoon of Friday 12th September from 4pm, or on the day itself between 8am and 10am when the Smiddy and Cottage will open for the day.
