About this Event
Explore Panmure House in the heart of Edinburgh for Doors Open Day weekend.
Not normally open to the public, this is a rare chance to tour Panmure House, the final remaining home of Adam Smith. Stand in the very room where Smith completed An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations and explore our Smith Library Restoration. You will also get the chance to view a rare 1st Edition of The Wealth of Nations.
Today the house is a centre of excellence for the study of contemporary economics, a place of reflection on the legacy of Adam Smith, and a venue for social and economic debate.
Our Smith Library Restoration is a project dedicated to the partial reconstruction of the book collection Smith held when he lived at Panmure. It comprises a cross-section of works as close as possible in edition to those he owned, and is designed to represent the breadth and depth of his learning across multiple languages and disciplines.
You'll have the chance to delve deeper into a selection of books, handpicked from our collection to showcase the breadth of Smith's interests and the multitude of stories held within.
