Mute The TV return to The Whale Theatre on Saturday, April 27th following their sold out raucous debut on October 6th, 2023.
The band, made up of brothers Elliot and Dylan Crampton from Greystones were blown away by the turnout and support at their first gig entitled Turn Up The Stereo, Mute The TV and the interest in when their next show would be. So, they’re thrilled to be doing it all again on April 27th. Entwining laughter, storytelling, family feuds (they’re brothers after all) and a passion for writing songs and music that can be enjoyed en masse, it’s a night not to be missed!
In a risqué, sorry, risky move, older brother Elliot will open proceedings with a short, intimate set of his solo material. He’ll tell little stories of where his songs come from which are mostly personal anecdotes about his childhood, his time spent travelling, friends and love. Elliot’s most recent release “In my Head (again)’’ received national airplay with RTE, TodayFM, Radio Nova, EastCoastFM and more.
Dylan will then “really” start the show as he likes to say, after his “support act”. It is interesting to hear and see the contrasting songwriting styles and personalities of the two brothers. Dylan has a unique and impressive picking style, in a similar vein to Lindsey Buckingham and Glen Campbell which he makes look effortless while singing sweet melodies over complicated picking patterns. His most recent release “Butterfly” also received radio play across the country.
To close the night, the brothers come together with their full-band set of upbeat, loud and fun Mute The TV songs. Their friends Oscar Hackett and David Heffernan will be on bass and drum duties respectively who bring a whole host of experience and showmanship in their own right.
The format of the show means there’s something for everyone to enjoy and is like a rollercoaster of ups and downs with laughing, screaming, some crying and lots of singing along. Mute The TV’s latest release “You’re So Cruel’’ was described by Hotpress as “...infectious as ever, absolutely dripping with both imagination and undeniable skill” and as an “anthem” on RTE 2FM.
