The jewel singer-songwriter of Ohio, Donna Mogavero, knows how to write a song. If you don't want to take our word, take it from The Greater Columbus Music Awards: in 1994, they awarded her with "Outstanding Acoustic Solo Performance," "Outstanding Folk Singer Vocalist," "Outstanding Rock Singer Vocalist,” and “Talent Deserving Wider Recognition."The Clash claimed London, The Strokes captured New York City, but Columbus, Ohio, belongs to Donna Mogavero. She hit all the musician milestones along the way, of course – including a make-or-break trip to LA (working as a barista for Michael Jackson's chef) and a few months on the Nashville circuit – but the pull of Ohio's community was just too strong to let go of. She raised her family here, and she wrote songs for the city here.
After all these years, while many Columbus musicians diversified their work portfolio (aka getting a day job), Donna's resolution to keep singing never lost its momentum. She's still releasing music, performing, and being discovered by a new generation of listeners with no agenda other than connecting to that one person in the crowd. After all, "all you need is the lovely sound of one person clapping."
