The City of Iowa City and several non-profit partners will offer donation and recycling options at the Donation Drive-Thru event – all Johnson County residents are welcome to participate! All donations will go directly to our non-profit partners who will put items to vital use for those in need in our community. This year’s non-profit partners include Antelope Lending Library, Crowded Closet, Houses into Homes, and Table to Table.This event is meant to support local residents who may be moving during the lease-turnover time at the end of July by providing a variety of disposal options for common or problematic items when moving.
- When: Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024
- Where: Lower level of Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp in downtown Iowa City - enter from Washington Street ramp entrance
Accepted items for recycling:
- Batteries, light bulbs, books (paperback and hardcover), mattresses (recycled for $10 per item - cash only), box springs (recycled for $10 per item - cash only)
Accepted items for donation:
- Food items (non-perishable and unopened items only)
- Toiletry items (unopened items only) (examples: toilet paper, paper towels, soap, lotion, laundry detergent, etc.)
- Books
- Clothing, shoes, purses
- Furniture (examples: dressers, chairs, tables, etc.)
-- Note: large, heavy, or outdated items may be turned away by event staff/volunteers
- Mattresses and box springs
-- Note: if items are not in good condition for donation, they can be recycled for $10 per item
- Microwaves
- Small appliances (must be clean and in good working order) (examples: toasters, coffee makers, blenders, etc.)
- Kitchen and household items (examples: dishware, decorative items, blankets, etc.)
Donation items must be clean, in good working order, and in good condition (meaning no rips, stains, pet hair, food residue, damage, etc.).
Iowa City Citywide Garage Sales 2024:
