About this Event

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Domestic Abuse: Engaging with families, assessing risk and supporting change

IN PERSON - 2 DAY COURSE

It is ONLY for people who work with children and families in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland.

You MUST have attended a Coercive Control Course prior to attending (one is being run on 11th September - but similar or equivalent is ok)

Venue: Town Hall, Town Hall Square, Leicester LE1 9BG

Date: Wednesday 2nd October 9:30 - 16:00 hrs & Thursday 3rd October 09:30 - 16:00 hrs

Duration: 2 days

Target Audience : This is a higher level course for those who work with families where there are services involved, and domestic abuse is present. You must have completed a course on Coercive Control prior to attendance. We will ask for evidence of this if it is from a different provider. This is a course that is limited in numbers and unfortunately we will have to eliminate those who don't meet the above.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Increased knowledge of the dynamics within abusive relationships and the differing typologies of violence and abuse professionals may encounter within families
  2. Increased understanding of the range of effects of domestic abuse on children and young people as victims within their own right
  3. Enhance understanding of how domestic abuse affects parenting, both perpetrator and victim survivor, and how professionals may approach parenting assessments.
  4. Consider the competing agenda and the contradictory messages that are sometimes delivered in practice by services working with domestic abuse, child protection and safeguarding children
  5. Consider both professional responsibility to be curious about the dynamics within family relationships and the opportunities for professionals to hold perpetrators to account
  6. Develop knowledge of evidence based risk factors for domestic homicide and/or serious harm to victims and children including the use of professional judgement
  7. Develop confidence in the practical application of risk assessment in relation to both adults, children and perpetrators of domestic abuse
  8. Increase understanding of safe approaches when working with dual allegations of domestic abuse
  9. Develop skills and knowledge to work effectively with families to support them to safeguard their children, including motivating both the abusive and non abusive parent.

Please note: This event is subject to the LSCPB’s non-attendance charging policy. If you're unable to attend both days, please cancel your ticket via Eventbrite, as we do not have the capacity to do it for you. Failing to cancel or transfer your ticket to a colleague, you will still be liable for the non-attendance fee.
