About this Event
Anyone can experience domestic abuse, and it’s likely that professionals across every sector will support somebody at some point who has been impacted by this. It is important that professionals are able to recognise the signs of domestic abuse, understand the impact and ensure the right support is put in place for survivors at the earliest opportunity.
This 1-day course is designed to help learners explore the dynamics of an abusive relationship, consider domestic abuse (DA) through a culturally informed lens, and understand the different contexts of DA. This will include highlighting prevalence rates, providing general awareness and exploring the challenges around leaving an abusive relationship.
Learning Objectives
• Understand the prevalence of DA and the dynamics of an abusive relationship
• Understand the key points of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021
• Understand the challenges that survivors come across when deciding to stay or leave an abusive relationship
• Understand the wider context of DA including so-called honour based violence, forced marriage, female genital mutilation and stalking
• Understand culturally informed practice within the context of DA

Participant wellbeing

Domestic abuse can be an emotionally impactful subject to discuss, and whilst trainers will strive to create a safe environment for learners it is important that all attendees are aware of their own triggers for trauma, how they may respond and how to care for themselves. Please do contact us on 0300 323 9985 or [email protected]. and ask to speak confidentially to a trainer about any needs you may have ahead of the course.
