About this Event
This is a wine dinner unlike any we have done before here at Vermilion! We are so excited to be hosting one of the key winemakers elevating Virginia wines, Matthieu Finot, for a four course meal paired with his family's wines both from France and Virginia!
Matthieu comes from a long line of winemakers producing wine in the Rhone Valley of France. When the family vineyards went to his cousin, his brother Thomas and himself decided to purchase some vines in the Alpine region, Isère. They started Domaine Finot with the unique Alpine vines, and quickly their Alpine wines began to gain recognition for their dedication to the culture and terroir of the region. Soon, their cousin in the Rhone Valley was asking to purchase their Alpine grapes! In 2014, they had the opportunity to take over a parcel of their family's vineyards in Crozes-Hermitage to add to their prestigious offerings.
The same year Domaine Finot started in Isère, 2007, Matthieu came to Virginia to work as the winemaker at King Family Vineyards. A friend of his asked him to manage his vineyard on Turk Mountain (Monticello AVA) in exchange for grapes to do with as he pleases. Matthieu took him up on his offer and now has a small production of wine from this very special Monticello vineyard that acts as the sister winery to his winery in Isère.
Today, Thomas makes the wines in France while Matthieu makes the wines here in Virginia, both under the label "Domaine Finot" to truly showcase what the French hands-off approach to winemaking can do across very different terroirs.
At this dinner, we will share two wines from Domaine Finot France and two wines from Domaine Finot Virginia alongside a fine four-course dinner from Chef Anthony Chittum using fresh ingredients from Mid-Atlantic purveyors. Matthieu will be dining with us and sharing information about the wines and the story of these incredible sister wineries.
