This is the month of Phalguna, when the popular Holi festival coincides with Dolyatra, aka, Phalgu-Utsav, when Radha-Govinda is placed on a Dola, offered a puja using Abir/Gulal and the devotees smear themselves with the same Abir. The Sanskrit name for Abir/Gulal is Phalgu-churna (crushed Phalgu)
The common thread is the Sanskrit word Phalgu , which literally means something that flows subtly, and refers to the Paramatman and its universal presence in a subtle form. Spring (the month when life flows more vigorously-Phalguna) is here, and it’s time to celebrate by smearing ourselves and Radha-Govinda with Phalgu-churna!
