Join us for a fun and informative class focused on photographing dogs. This class will cover the basics on working with dogs as your model. We will have several rescue dogs to photograph that are looking for homes. Not only will this be fun, but it will also be focused on helping dogs in need.
A few of the things covered in this class:
- How is photographing dogs different from photographing human models?
- The importance of breaks for your dog models.
- Understanding what motivates your dog model. Food, toys, sounds etc.
- Interacting with the dogs and the different type of dogs encountered; working dogs, police dogs or pet dogs? Is it a rescue? What challenges come with each?
- Challenges of dog photography and safety?
- How do you prepare the humans who are bringing in the dog to be photographed? Questions you need to ask.
- Where is it best to photograph dogs? Indoors vs. outdoors.
- Settings and how are they different when photographing dogs?

About the instructor:
Sara has always had a strong love of animals, especially birds and dogs. She has always enjoyed photography and very much enjoys visual storytelling. Sara has always had a camera in hand, and a dog at her side, but has specialized in photographing dogs and dog sports for the past 7 years. She enjoys photographing police K9’s, working dogs, dog sports and dogs in motion. She is the proud owner of Land Shark Photography based in Sacramento, California and photographs dog sport trials and dog events several times a month. Sara also trains and competes in the dog sport called Schutzhund. Her current competition dog, Kalixstus Namornik is her favorite subject and the pair are rarely apart. Sara is a member of the Professional Photographers of America and is an affiliate Photographer for the Tilly Project-End of Life Pet Photography. She is also a member of the United Schutzhund Clubs of America.
