About this Event
The Documentary Film Institute and Bertelsmann Foundation cordially invite you to the Bay Area premiere of Lithium Rising: The Race for Critical Minerals.
From the moment the smartphone alarm wakes us up in the morning, we begin our day relying on the lithium battery. From the mundane to the lifesaving, lithium powered devices get us through the day.
Access to the minerals that power a battery has emerged as a vital geopolitical, economic and social concern. So where does the lithium, the nickel, and the cobalt come from? And who controls the supply?
From the salt flats of South America, to the red earth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; from the nickel smelters in Indonesia, to factories in Northern France; from tribal lands of Northern Nevada to battery recycling plants in rural Georgia, Lithium Rising—directed by Bertelsmann Foundation’s Samuel George—brings the viewer up close and personal with the people and communities impacted by this global phenomenon.
is journey to the frontline of energy in the 21st century. And the race is on.
This project is brought to us by Bertelsmann Foundation Documentaries, a non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Washington, DC. You can find their work online at www.bfnadocs.org.
This special event is a colloboration between the Bertelsmann Foundation, the Documentary Film Institute at SF State, BAVC Media, and Ninth Street Independent Film Center.
