Join us for a series of 3 short documentary films from previous King Artist Resident with the Palo Alto Public Arts program Kirti Bassendine representative of her latest work, Contemporary Indigenous Voices of California's South Coast Range (CIVSCR). After the screenings, you are welcome to stay for a Q&A session Kirti. The CIVSCR project highlights cultural connections between Indigenous people and their ancestral lands and exploring related contemporary topics such as rematriation of land and climate change. On exhibition at the de Young Museum of Fine Art in San Francisco October 2023 – January 2024, the CIVSCR features local Indigenous community members including:

Linda Yamane, tribal historian of Rumsen Ohlone Tribal Community
Kanyon Sayers-Roods, Chairwoman of the Indian Canyon Nation
The exhibit overall seeks to amplify the stories of 10 Indigenous tribal groups from the South Coast Range. Participating tribal groups are:

-Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the SF Bay Area
-Tamien Nation
-Indian Canyon Chualar Tribe of the Costanoan-Ohlone People
-Amah Mutsun Tribal Band
-Rumsen Ohlone Tribal Community
-Esselen Tribe of Monterey County
-Salinan Tribe of San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties
-Salinan T'rowt'raahl Tribal Community
