An imperial Japanese Navy fighter plane piloted by Petty Officer Tadayoshi Koga crash-landed on the island of Akutan in the Aleutians after the battle of Dutch Harbor on June 4, 1942. The A6M Zero was discovered by a US Navy patrol aircraft a month later. It was recovered and sent to California for testing and evaluation. Koga's Zero was later used for training US fighter pilots in mock dogfights and enemy aircraft capabilities. It was a predecessor for today's Top Gun and Red Flag training schools.6:30, 7 & 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 in the Alaska Exhibition, Second Floor, East Wing
