About this Event

We are pleased to present Do Everything in the Dark, a group reading hosted by The Paris Review, Pioneer Works, and friends of Gary Indiana, with special guest Gary Indiana.

The celebrated writer, artist, and cultural critic will be reading from his 2003 novel Do Everything in the Dark, a roman à clef that conjures, in hilarious and heartbreaking vignettes, the everyday struggles of a group of middle-aged New Yorkers—actors, theatre-makers, artists—in the aftermath of the Downtown scene.

Additional guest readers will be announced closer to the event.

This event will feature a cash bar and fall bites by Fort Defiance.

This event is co-presented with The Paris Review.

In accordance with the New York City mandate, Key to NYC, visitors (age 12+) must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter Pioneer Works. Be prepared to show your proof of vaccination upon arrival at Pioneer Works. Please review our updated Health and Safety Policy here.

Gary Indiana is the author of seven novels, a prolific essayist, a visual artist, an actor, a playwright, and the former art critic for the Village Voice. Indiana lives on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
