We are excited to announce the 23rd installment of our famous DJ Carousel (i.e. round robin b2b jam session). These are a great way for our community to mix and network. If you're a student of our DJ class, you should check one of these out to see how it goes down.Feel free to invite trusted friends and non-DJs who just want to hang out and enjoy tunes.
The vibe is always chill and its a great way to practice beatmatching, mixing, track selection, and b2b. Some beers will be provided, but feel free to byob to share as well.
This time around, we're gathering at Omran's loft in Santa Ana. Parking is free and really easy in the lot right outside the loft. It says its private parking, but its not enforced. These are not to be missed and totally unique from most music events. Come hang out with us.
How it works:
There will be 4 one-armed DJ setups (2x Turntables and 2x CDJ 2000's). No DJ setup is complete so you must partner with another DJ to perform a mix.
Participants are welcome to jump on a setup when its free and take turns spinning a track each in a circle. The challenge lies in not only mixing in by ear, but to transition the vibe gradually from the previous person's sound to your sound. Communication between DJs is also key as you will be mixing out of one mixer into another.
In order to claim a participant spot, you need to be able to beatmatch by ear or at least learning how to in our class (i.e. bpm counters won't save you here).
Bring USB sticks, records, CDs, whatever your music is on. No laptops for this one as they are a pain to swap in and out.
Some things you should know:
1. Bring good vibes, positivity and support for your fellow DMI DJs
2. Use good judgement - We want to do these on the regular so we need to respect Omran's home and neighborhood.
3. Donations welcome. Proceeds will go towards drinks, ice, etc.
4. I know everyone is anxious to mix in when its their turn. Please be courteous to the previous DJ who mixed in before you by letting their track breathe before you stomp all over it. Music first.
The vibe is always low pressure and its a great way to practice, hang out, and groove to great tunes. This isn't your typical club environment, but feel free to let the music move you.
