Rakhi is a traditional Indian festival that celebrates the bond between a brother and a sister, but it can be celebrated by friends as well! It is based on the premise of love and protection. And what better way to celebrate this unique festival than with unique handmade one of a kind rakhis! In this workshop, the participants will make a bunch of rakhis (5-6) with different techniques ranging from modern to traditional. These rakhis can then be gifted to your close friends and family! The skills learnt in this workshop can be easily translated into making hair accessories, friendship bracelets and other things.We will be using techniques of Macrame, bead knotting, making felt and sari fabric flowers for making unique one of a kind Rakhis! Almost all the supplies will be reused stuff- small pieces of ribbon, felt, paper, vintage sari, etc.

This workshop is appropriate for ages 8+ only (yes, adults, too!). Minors do not have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the workshop. Adults must come inside to drop their minor off with the workshop instructor. Drop off begins 10 minutes before the scheduled start time, and everyone must be picked up at the scheduled end of the workshop.

About the Instructor
I am Preeti Agrawal, a craft blogger and watercolorist. In my work, I am concerned with experiments that combine old and new. I am drawn to the modern craft sensibility but at the same time the traditional arts call to me. I love the interplay of the two as I adjust traditional arts to new mediums and materials.
A concern for the environment and a reverence for nature pervades my daily life and my work: I save fabric, remnants, beads and the castaways of modern living and incorporate them in my work. Making things by hand gives me joy, up cycling, salvaging and repurposing materials gives me joy, as a result my crafting world is the perfect marriage of two!
