About this Event

Hi!

Manchester’s Trans Liberation Assembly is hosting a DIY HRT Info Social at Islington Mill this Spring. We’d love to invite members of your network to the event - a free, trans-led place to build on our collective knowledge and strengthen our resistance.

While the government is gutting pathways for trans youth, alternatives to the NHS and private clinics can be gatekept, uncited, or just plain confusing.

Our first event aims to map out the pathways of common HRT routes and DIY healthcare autonomy. On the night you’ll be able to learn about navigating the system; understanding the grey market; the chemistry behind hormone-affecting drugs; and take part in an open-floor discussion where we can share experiences and encouragement.

Details are as follows:

Wednesday 8th May 2024. 6-9pm. Islington Mill Club Space.

Open to anyone 18+ who wants to learn / share about DIY HRT.

6.00 Doors open for tea, snacks, zines, pamphlets.

7.00 Presentation begins: a run-down on DIY HRT, general info, and other meds.

8.00 Hot meal served (VG, GF)

9.00 Wrap up

As the Assembly builds relationships with established organisations and the wider community, we plan to continue these workshops to restore trans healthcare to trans people. Please share widely within trans circles and follow our social media to keep up with Manchester TLA as we grow.

Important!!!

We have allocated funds for transport / child care / accessibility needs - please contact us so we can provide this for you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Access

Islington Mill is a wheelchair-accessible space with gender-neutral, accessible toilets. Wheelchair users are advised to enter via the front of the mill; James St - as opposed to Regent Trading Estate, which is roughly paved with cobblestones.

Hygiene products and toiletries will be available to freely take. Masks will be provided, and it's strongly encouraged to wear a mask if you are able to because there will be some clinically vulnerable participants.

Unfortunately, we aren’t able to make this event remotely-accessible. We share your frustrations and are working to change this for future meetings and events.

If you have access needs that we haven’t discussed, please contact us ASAP so we can accommodate you. For example, we have not prepared a BSL interpreter.

Food

We will be providing snacks, tea, and soft drinks from 6pm. We’ll break at about 8pm for a hot, vegan, gluten free meal. If you’d like to know more information about the meal (likely a chilli or a curry with rice), email us a couple of days before the event.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Registration

Registering via eventbrite helps us estimate food / seating plans, but you’re welcome to turn up without registering.

Pamphlets + Zines

A variety of short essays regarding hormones, trans bodies, resistance, and theory will be available as (free) pamphlets to take away. Come early to ensure you get one!

If you have pamphlets and zines that you're keen for trans people to read, please bring some along and we can freely share / swap.

We won't be handling cash or card payments at this event so bear that in mind if you have to pay to print them off.
