Ever wondered what's going on behind the plasterboard in your walls, how to isolate an electrical circuit in your house or understand your fuse box?Do you want to understand the workings in your house better and carry out small jobs like changing a light fitting or taking off a socket for decorating for example? Or even changing it to a USB socket?
Had enough of waiting for someone else to do it?
We've got exciting news! We have revised and expanded this course. And what's best, you'll get a code for 10% off the DIY Plumbing Intensive in your booking confirmation, if you'd like to do both courses in the same week.
Day 1 will cover the fundamentals of how your house electrics work. You will learn about the different electrical circuits in your house and how to isolate them. We'll get to know our Consumer Unit (or "Fuse Box") and discover what's inside it! You'll learn what you can do yourself at home and what you can't, as there are regulations around that. Electrics can be dangerous, but understanding home electrics will not only make it safer but will also enable you to make informed choices and speak the language the tradespeople you hire will understand!
You'll learn how to check if the plugs on your appliances are safe, do some simple maths and figure out what Watts, Volts and Ampere actually mean.
You'll get hands on and learn about the tools needed to wire up a plug and then a double socket - and how to take the socket cover off for decorating for example.
On day 2 we will recap isolating circuits and understand how to avoid overloading them. We will do some fault finding, wire up a plug, a light fitting and a switch - and then test if it works!
The DIY Electrics for Beginners Course is taught by Maria Kinsella, who is an electrician and a multi tradeswoman with over 10 years experience, together with Astrid Arnold.
