About this Event
Get creative and make a unique bolo tie crafted from your favorite knick-knacks! Bring along meaningful items from home that are gathering dust on your shelf or choose from our collection of reuse materials. We’ll help you transform them into meaningful, wearable art through basic jewelry-making techniques. By the end of the class, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind accessory and the skills to continue adding flair to your wardrobe.
Pricing:
At Rebuild, we believe everyone should have access to learning handy skills, no matter their financial situation. Our sliding scale pricing reflects our commitment to community care and recognizes that financial stability can vary for all of us. We dream of spaces for everyone to join in, share knowledge, and contribute to a more equitable environment. If all of these tiers are inaccessible to you please email Julian to be added to the list for any workshop.
We base much of our pricing off of the work done by Alexis J. Cunningfolk. Read more about The Sliding Scale: A Tool of Economic Justice. Her Green Bottle Sliding Scale Tool is very helpful in determining what tier is right for you and can be found at the bottom of this event page.
About your Teacher:
Mx. Julian Rich (he/they) is a 6-12 grade S.T.E.A.M. educator and makerspace manager focusing on creative reuse in maker education and the founder of Rebuild.
When Mx. Rich saw the need for teaching adults the same maker skills they were teaching their students, Julian started teaching handy and mending classes for all ages during their school breaks and on weekends as Rebuild. They are passionate about building autonomous and confident communities through accessbile handy skill building. They are also a community organizer in the area, a lover of animals, and a real SILLY GOOSE. You can hear them giggling on tik tok @mxrichmakes.
Creative reuse classes:
Embrace sustainability and creativity with our Creative Reuse classes! These workshops teach you how to turn readily available items from your recycling bin into beautiful and functional art. Whether you're making vases from upcycled plastic or creating forever-blooming plants from paper products, you'll learn techniques to manipulate everyday materials into something extraordinary. Perfect for all skill levels, our classes help you develop the ability to see potential in what others might consider waste, fostering a sustainable and artistic mindset.
