This class focuses on the beautiful and empowering art form of Middle Eastern-style dance, commonly known as belly dance. Rooted in ancient traditions, belly dance is often believed to be the original birthing dance, symbolizing femininity, strength, and empowerment. It has historically been associated with celebrating the female form and connecting to one's body in a transformative way. We will explore movements that engage the hips, belly, and chest, helping to build strength, flexibility, and body awareness. Through these movements, students will connect to their own inner power, embracing the dance’s rich cultural heritage while experiencing its modern-day significance as a celebration of self-expression and confidence.
All women are welcome in this class, regardless of experience or background. The dress code is relaxed—feel free to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and allows you to move freely. Wear a hip scarf or coin belt, if possible. Gretchen will have extras available for you to borrow. The goal is to foster a space where you can express yourself fully and explore the dance in a way that feels natural to you.
