As organizations must be prepared for a diverse workplace culture many are finding they are not prepared to properly manage different types of employees. This is why diversity and inclusion experts are brought in to help train leadership and management.
If you are interested in learning what it takes to be a DEI expert and trainer then attend this free workshop. We will have a full day training led by experts on Diversity Equity and Inclusion that will be able to guide you in understanding how to navigate these waters.
We will be covering two main topics at this event:
1.Embracing gender diversity
Let’s face it women are doing better than ever before both professionally and socially. Women are making progress at every level of leadership from boards to projects and assignments in classrooms. It is easier for girls to find role models amongst their teachers bosses or colleagues. This creates an environment where they feel more confident in their abilities and skills.
Women continue to be underrepresented throughout all levels of education industry technology and government. By not having enough women in these areas we lose insight into how things can affect females specifically.
It’s also important to note that there are now many programs designed to help both younger and older girls identify roles and paths that are traditionally considered “male”. Many companies have explicit policies banning discrimination against men and women.
2.How to create a diverse team
More and more companies are recognizing that they can achieve better results by having a wider variety of perspectives ideas and experiences in their organizations. These improvements come from different people with different backgrounds and voices.
In fact studies show that when teams include members with varying opinions the result is higher quality decisions projects and products. It also encourages group thinking where everyone agrees about what needs to be done.
Consensus building is a key part of group decision making and groups are formed based on individuals’ shared views. When these same groups or individual experts are faced with making decisions at work they rely less on any one perspective and more on the whole.
This increases the likelihood that they will consider factors like risk and uncertainty when deciding how to proceed which in turn helps prevent bad decisions from being made. Experts are sure they have considered all the relevant points and there is less chance of holding onto unnecessary precision.
Importantly though this does not mean that we should leave our judgments up to others. As leaders we must effectively differentiate between facts and interpretations before accepting anyone else’s interpretation as truth.
Given that diversity encompasses so many things it is important to ask yourself if you truly understand why you want to promote diversity within your organization and whether you see an overall value in doing so.
There are several ways you can investigate the impact of diversity on your company’s performance.
By embracing diverse ideas you will ensure that your organization is reflective of the greater community which is leading towards equality. You want to make sure that all members of society understand what equal opportunity means and the value each individual brings to the table.
