Sara M. Saleh is a human rights lawyer, organiser, writer, and the daughter of migrants from Palestine, Egypt, and Lebanon. Her poems, short stories, and essays have been published in English and Arabic in Australian Poetry Journal, Overland, Meanjin, Cordite Poetry Review, Red Room Poetry, K*ll Your Darlings, Rabbit Poetry Journal, and SBS, amongst others. She is co-editor of the ground-breaking anthology Arab, Australian, Other.
Sara made history as the first poet to win both the Australian Book Review’s 2021 Peter Porter Poetry Prize and the Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prize 2020.
Her debut novel 'Songs for the Dead and the Living' and a full-length poetry collection, 'The Flirtation of Girls' are featured this evening.
Joachim Matschoss was born in Germany and is local to Eltham. He is a gifted playwright, poet and Theatre-maker. His Theatre Company, ‘Backyard Theatre Ensemble (BYTE)’ presents diverse pieces of theatre in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, India, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Hungary, Taiwan, Switzerland and China. Joachim’s poetry is published in Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA.His anthologies at ELTHAMbookshop include Stolpersteine, Sidewalk Theatre,and dew on mornings past.
His new collection ‘a time heavy with life ‘ is launched this evening.

Bebe Backhouse-Oliver is a descendant of the Bardi Jawi people of the Kimberley region, and an award-winning writer who has called Naarm home for many years. Beginning his artistic practice as a classical pianist and composer, Bebe has made a name for himself as a producer and director of theatre, festivals, and public art projects across Australia, including international dance and theatre projects in New Zealand, France, and Belgium. Bebe is Co-Chairperson of Blak & Bright First Nations Literary Festival, and a Board Director of Magabala Books.
A writer, poet, illustrator, speaker, and facilitator living on the unceded land of the Kulin peoples, Bebe's works encompass love, loss, identity, Aboriginal and gay existence, place, and Country. His anthology 'more than words' and his contribution to 'Woven First Nations Poetic Conversations' are featured this evening.
