About this Event

Are you interested in topics related to culture, migration and identity? Then our conference Diverse Roots: Shared Future may be of interest to you! We often hear that we are living in an increasingly polarised society. Diverse Roots: Shared Future, focuses on exploring ways to foster harmonious coexistence amidst social diversity. We want to invite local people from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, to discuss issues related to multiculturalism, and identify practical solutions for building stronger, more unified communities.

In today's dynamic and interconnected world, multiculturalism stands as a defining feature of modern societies. Yet, the term ‘multiculturalism’ remains contested, meaning different things to different people, with ongoing debates in society ranging from questions of integration, identity, and social harmony. While some view multiculturalism as a source of strength through diversity, others raise concerns over supposed lack in unity and speak of the values of tradition and cohesion.

Our conference Diverse Roots: Shared Future, focuses on exploring ways to foster harmonious coexistence amidst such diversity. With participants from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, we aim to discuss issues, and identify practical solutions for building stronger, more unified communities.

Our conference seeks to achieve two goals: firstly, in facilitating communication between local authorities, charities, and the broader public; we seek to encourage interactive dialogue pertaining to the question of multiculturalism, while providing the space for networking and increased future action in this field. Secondly, the conference hosts will use this event as the basis of a report, which will highlight recommendations of how we can better accommodate cultural diversity in our local area in relation to shared social values and goals.

Speeches by four keynote speakers will begin our conference, followed by the host’s presentation. The final part of the conference will be an open conversation between the hosts, speakers, and participants on the issues and questions raised.

At the heart of the European's Welfare Association CIC lies a steadfast commitment to community building and mutual respect, guiding our efforts in addressing pressing issues such as social exclusion. Our guiding motto, "together we can open more doors", encapsulates our belief in the transformative power of inclusivity, we hope that you can join us in this task on the 26 September.
