About this Event
Christine’s swimming journey began in her early years, learning to swim in school in Salford and with her father. She thrived in local swim galas until the age of 11 when a life-changing road traffic accident put her swimming on hold. While she worked hard to regain fitness, the emotional impact of her scars kept her away from the water for many years.
Fast forward 40 years, Christine was ready for a new challenge. Tired of battling her weight by jogging Yorkshire’s hills, she decided to embrace her past passion—this time, through triathlon. Joining Craven Energy Triathlon Club, she set her sights on two ambitious goals: completing a full-distance triathlon and swimming the English Channel.
Christine has since become a dedicated swim teacher, coach, and open-water swim leader, running sessions across the UK. She has even served as a lifeguard for the cast of Made in Chelsea! This summer, she will be leading open-water sessions locally and with Pendle Tri Club, helping swimmers of all abilities gain confidence in cold water.
Christine is also involved in a nationwide NHS West Sussex study investigating the health benefits of cold-water immersion. Her talk at Alpkit on March 27th is open to all—regardless of age, ability, or experience. Whether you’re curious about cold-water dipping, endurance swimming, or just want to explore the magic of blue spaces, Christine invites you to dive in (rhetorically speaking!) and discover the transformative power of open water.
Questions are welcome—come along and get inspired!
