One word most wonderfully describes this extraordinary evening featuring two of the cabaret world’s leading singers and songwriters: Divalicious. Music divas Amanda McBroom and Ann Hampton Callaway celebrate classics from the Great American Songbook and also their own works. Musical Director and acclaimed songwriter Michele Brourman accompanies the duo in this stunning show of song and storytelling.
Amanda McBroom is described by Broadway World as “… one of the greatest nightclub performers of all time. Her lyrics are profound and express human emotions in glorious poetry. Her humor is so smart and she sings and acts it all brilliantly.” She first came to the attention of music lovers when Bette Midler’s version of Amanda’s song “The Rose” hit number one all over the world.
A writer for the New York Times wrote of Ann Hampton Callaway, “For sheer vocal beauty, no contemporary singer matches Ms. Callaway.” Callaway is one of the leading champions of the Great American Songbook, having made her mark as a singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, educator, TV host and producer. Voted recently by Broadway World as “Performer of the Year” and “Best Jazz Vocalist.” Her latest record “Finding Beauty, Originals Vol. 1 debuted at #1 on the Billboard Jazz Chart.
Best known for her song “My Favorite Year” Michele Brourman is “a consummate artist/composer…. whose songs target the human condition with a simplicity, honesty and directness which make them into contemporary classics.” She enjoys a wide- ranging career as a singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and music producer whose songs have been recorded by artists ranging from Reba McIntyre to Olivia Newton- John. She’s played with Bernadette Peters and Bob Dylan, and composed the scores for movies including the recent multi-award-winning “Show Her the Money.” Her 50 year collaboration with Amanda McBroom has produced countless classics including the music for 20 animated features for Universal Studios and most recently the end credit song for Jessica Lange’s tour-de-force “The Great Lillian Hall”.
