Paved walking trails take you across Nance Spring Branch creek, around Nance Spring Loop, and connect all of the park facilities. Hike or bike to the top and enjoy spectacular views! On a clear day, you can see the Raleigh downtown skyline. You may access the top of the landfill from the "Top of the Hill Trail" gravel trail located near the park entrance sign (you can park in gravel parking lot right there and follow signs to trail access). *Remain on the designated trails around and on the landfill at all times, and to prevent injury do not walk or ride bikes on the slopes of the landfill.
North Wake Landfill District Park is located at 9300 Deponie Drive in Raleigh, NC. The park is located in North Raleigh off Durant Road between Falls of Neuse Road and Capital Blvd. *Note* There is not a sign on Durant Road for the park. After you turn onto Deponie Drive, follow road around to right through gates and past the old scalehouse for Landfill. Continue down road past Household Hazardous Waste drop off on your right. The entrance to park will be on your left. Continue left around the landfill hill, will meet there.
Remember, this does not necessarily have to be a Unit event…please spread the word to our Scouting families and promote the hikes as “family events”!
All you need to bring is a good pair of walking shoes, plenty of water and your enthusiasm. Nature will provide the rest! We hope to see you on the trail. Rain or shine! Please remember to follow the Guide to Safe Scouting!
