Tuesday, April 1
7pm
Light Hall Theater
Free
Jay Coghlan of Nuclear Watch New Mexico and Archbishop of Santa Fe John C. Wester will be on campus to share their insights on nuclear disarmament and their efforts in dedication to this goal.
Jay Coghlan is the founder of Nuclear Watch New Mexico, an organization that through comprehensive research, public education, and effective citizen action, seeks to: promote safety and environmental protection at regional nuclear facilities; mission diversification away from nuclear weapons programs; greater accountability and cleanup in the nation-wide nuclear weapons complex; and consistent U.S. leadership toward a world free of nuclear weapons.
Archbishop of Santa Fe John C. Wester's visits to Hiroshima and Nagasaki included participation in memorial ceremonies, meetings with survivors (hibakusha), and discussions with key religious and civic leaders. These activities all served as a powerful reminder of the moral and ethical imperatives to dismantle nuclear arsenals and prevent future nuclear catastrophes.
