Distillation & Backyard Alchemy 101
Join us at Father's Farmhouse for a hands-on workshop on the ancient art of distillation and backyard alchemy! Learn how to turn everyday plant material into magical essential oils and hydrosols right in your own backyard. Expert alchemist & professional distiller Darla Dunn of Honest To God Organics will guide you through a live hands on distillation process step by step. Come ready to get your hands dirty and your inspiration flowing!
Participants will collect knowledge on plant materials, types of stills, methods of distillation, safety, safe capture, seperation and uses. Participants will recieve a distillation packet along with a bottle of captured product from the distillation.
About Darla Dunn
Darla Dunn, a Certified Holistic Aromatherapist is also a professional aromatic distiller at 123 Farm Lavender, hydrosol aromatherapy instructor at JennScents Aromaversity and CEO of Honest to God Organics Apothecary. Darla has cultured a lifelong, deep connection to nature and the variety of botanicals that flourish in her native home of Southern California. As a child, it was the flora that she found refuge and friendship in, recognizing at an early age that she wanted to help and heal. Today, you will likely find Darla in a garden or on the farm she serves with either plant, still, oil or hydrosol in hand. An enthusiastic holistic aromatherapist, Darla’s love for botanicals and aromatherapy has expanded into the creations of the essential oil and hydrosol. With nearly a decade of focused work surrounding phyto-aromatherapy and distillation, it is the hydrosol that she is mostpassionate and inspired by. Darla curates educational experiences like “Backyard Alchemy & Distillation 101,” through demonstration and practice, showing others how to safely and effectively create their own essential oils and therapeutic hydrosols.
Darla is a professional distiller, but she also distills privately from her own herbal garden. She owns several stills, but she is unapologetically partial to her copper stills. As head distiller at one of Southern California’s largest certified organic lavender farms, Darla’s work is to reform and redefine a standard of good distillation practices. In 2022, Darla launched Honest to God Organics Apothecary, as an affordable organic aromatherapy line featuring exclusive blends, holistic hydrosols and limited release collaborations with companies such as Montague Brothers Coffee, Donohoe Chiropractic, Silver Goat Skincare, Chapstick DNA and Sienna Soap Co. Forging a path in essential oil and hydrosol distillation awareness and education, Darla aspires to expand the concept of backyard distillation and encourage more farms to take up the practice. Darla's background of studies includes international industry mentors like Ann Harman, Jennifer Pressimone, Marco Valussi, Liz Fulcher and Jeanne Rose.
