Modern cold wax is an oil painting medium with a paste-like consistency. It thickens and extends oil paint so that it can be spread onto the substrate like frosting using palette knives, silicone spreaders, brayers, donor papers, etc.

In this workshop, you will become acquainted with R&F’s luscious Pigment Sticks (oil paint in stick form) and explore the many ways paint can be applied to a variety of surfaces without a brush in sight.

We will discuss the importance of authenticity and having differences in our work as we create layers and make marks. Pigment transparency, opacity, drying times and color mixing will also be covered.

You will each receive a tray full of R&F oil paints, an Ampersand 12“x12″ Gessobord, Gamblin OMS (odorless mineral spirits), and Galkyd Lite (Galkyd Lite thins oil colors and increases transparency and gloss) samples to use in class and take home.

Many of Julie’s own mixed media supplies will be provided for you to use during class. Julie will give daily demonstrations, assignments and exercises which lead you to discover your own ways of working.
