Part of International Dark Sky Week, join the St. Louis Astronomy Club at the Discover the Night event at Oak Knoll Park on Monday, April 21, from 8-9:30 p.m. (4/22 & 4/23 are rain dates). Spoiler: Oak Knoll Park will soon become a certified Dark Sky park through the Dark Sky International organization (@IDAdarksky).
St. Louis Astronomy Club will provide telescopes for up-close viewing of the stars.
International Dark Sky Week is a global celebration of the night. From the darkness needed for a restful night’s sleep to the activities we enjoy beneath the stars, the night plays a crucial role in protecting healthy wildlife ecosystems, advancing science and exploration, preserving cultural knowledge, and much more. Yet, with the rapid rise of light pollution, we risk losing the natural night we rely on alongside our view of the stars.
This is a free event open to all ages.
Star themed goodie bags will be distributed to children 12 and under whiles supplies last.
