About this Event
Step into the exciting world of improv with our interactive workshop, "Discover the Magic of Improv." This two-hour in-person experience is specially designed for individuals who are curious about exploring the thrill of improv for the first time. Get ready to embark on a low-pressure, fun-filled adventure that will unleash your creativity, boost your confidence, and ignite your sense of playfulness.
Led by our experienced and supportive instructors, this workshop is tailored to provide a safe and welcoming environment where you can comfortably step outside your comfort zone. The journey begins with a boundary check-in, where we establish guidelines for respect, trust, and collaboration. Our skilled instructors will guide you through engaging improv warmups and games.
Through interactive exercises and guided improvisation, you'll discover the joy of working together, building on each other's ideas, and creating compelling scenes on the spot.
No prior experience in acting or improv is necessary. Whether you're seeking a fun and unique experience, a chance to improve your communication skills, or simply a break from everyday routine, "Discover the Magic of Improv" is the workshop for you!
How our Flexible Ticket Pricing Works:
As part of our mission at Highwire Improv, we aim to make improv an art form that is simultaneously financiallly accessible to audiences and students and financially sustainable for performers and instructors. To achieve this, we offer three ticket options:
- Free Registration tickets.
- Pay What You Wish tickets.
- List Price tickets.
The list price tickets represent a standard registration fee to cover event costs, including paying our instructors. Individuals are welcome to use this as a guide and decide to pay less or more than that amount.
Note that for some venues (such as Enoch Pratt Free Libraries), we may only offer free or donation based tickets to comply with space rental expectations.
About your instructors:
Jess Robey (she/her) discovered her passion for improv comedy five years ago during an intro to improv workshop, and she hasn’t looked back since. Based in Baltimore, Jess has performed at various theaters and spaces in cities across the East Coast.
Currently, Jess is a member of several Baltimore improv teams, including Babeprov, Croc Talk, Important Screws, Teen Angst, and the show she produces, Girl Talk.
Outside of improv, Jess finds joy in dancing, candle making, and writing. She sees improv as a liberating experience, allowing her to let go, have fun, and feel supported.
Barry Wright (he/him) is an improviser, teacher, and technology professional. He is a co-founder of Highwire Improv and currently serves as President of the Board. He has trained in improv since 2017, including at Baltimore Improv Group, Hoopla Impro, and numerous online workshops. He performs with groups including Improv Jeoparty, Topiary, Important Screws, Whatever This Is and Dreamweaver. Barry lives with his wife Kristen and their three cats and is always happy to chat about improv or start a Google Doc.
