About this Event
Join longtime Strawberry Mansion resident Judith Robinson as she takes you through the fascinating history of one of Philadelphia's most unsung neighborhoods. From its origin as a country estate turned elite 1800’s neighborhood, to its years as a primarily Jewish enclave, and later a vibrant African American community, home to one of the oldest urban horse riding clubs, and amazing musical talents like John Coltrane and Meek Mill.
We’ll visit former synagogues, and the homes of some of Strawberry Mansion’s famous black residents, including the Coltrane House, along with several parks. The tour will finish up at the most recent addition to the neighborhood, the Discovery Center overlooking the reservoir at East Park.
