- Designated Milt D. Glick Lecture for DSLS 2024
What discoveries can be made in space? Astronaut and chemical engineer Al Sacco, Jr. shares his firsthand experience aboard the 1995 Columbia Space Shuttle mission and what scientific findings came from conducting experiments 170 miles above Earth. Before the mission, Sacco trained to live and work in microgravity, but nothing could prepare him for the profound experience of looking to earth and the universe from orbit.
Al Sacco, Jr. is an American chemical engineer who flew aboard the Columbia Space Shuttle as a Payload Specialist on mission STS-73 in 1995. From 2011 to 2022, Sacco served as Dean of the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at Texas Tech University.
Please stay for a Discover Science Reception immediately following the presentation.
