Learn about and enjoy some amazing wines from the Loire Valley of France
About this Event

One of the most interesting and diverse wine regions in the world is the Loire Valley of France. Along the banks of the over 600-mile-long Loire River, you can taste the difference in the wine as you move inland from the Pacific ocean. Its more northerly location in France makes for crisp whites and complex reds.

At this event, we will be tasting and learning about three wines most associated with the Loire Valley.

We will start with a Sancerre, which many people consider to be the best expression of Sauvignon Blanc in the world. I will be taking a L’Etincell Sancerre ($19.97 at Total Wine), but if you can't find it, feel free to substitute any other Sancerre. If you want to pair food with Sancerre, try goat cheese, mussels, grilled fish, chicken with lemon sauce, or salad with a vinaigrette dressing.

We will then learn about and taste Vouvray, what many consider the best expression of Chenin Blanc in the world. They can range from dry to semi-sweet. We are going to taste a dryer version. I will be tasting the Bougrier ‘V’ Vouvray Sec Dry ($16.99 at Total Wine). If you can’t find that one, feel free to substitute any other Vouvray but look for the word “Dry” in the description or an alcohol level of at least 12.5%. Some foods that pair well with Vouvray are creamy French cheeses, sushi, chicken, and pork loin.

We will then finish up with the red wine most associated with Loire, a Chinon. Chinon is a complex wine that many consider the best expression of Cabernet Franc in the world. I will be tasting a Philippe Chainier Chinon ($16.99 at Total Wine) but feel free to substitute any other Chinon. You would enjoy goat cheese, beef, tomato-based foods, and charcuterie with your Chinon.

We will have two sessions one at 6:30 Arizona Time (5:30 Pacific, 8:30 Eastern), and one at 6:30 Eastern (4:30 Arizona, 3:30 Pacific) There is no cost to attend but gratuities via Zelle, Venmo, and Paypal to [email protected] are welcome and appreciated.
