About gestalt and Gestalt Therapy Australia (GTA)

Gestalt therapy is a form of psychotherapy that applies a holistic approach to understanding and addressing an individual's experiences. It emphasises the interconnectedness of an individual's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. The term ‘gestalt’ is a German word, meaning whole or form. It is a vibrant, creative, and deeply compassionate approach to connecting therapeutically with others.

Gestalt Therapy Australia (GTA) was founded in 1995, and the training program we deliver has become nationally and internationally renowned. At GTA, students are immersed in an experiential learning process that is holistic, integrated and developmental. It is primarily designed to foster capacities essential for deep connection. In this way, it stands apart from other courses that can be more dryly academic or module-based.

Our program includes an internship with ConnectGround, our community-based clinic. The internship is an apprenticeship in gestalt psychotherapy that provides students with the opportunity to work with clients in a supportive and collegial learning environment.

Gestalt thinking has many applications in many settings. Gestalt practitioners work with individuals, couples, families, and groups in private, community, and organisational practice. At the heart of gestalt practice, there is a commitment to support better relating and living more fully.

Who is this event for?

This event is designed for anyone who is interested in gestalt and the training to become a gestalt practitioner/psychotherapist. Past participants include professionals from a variety of backgrounds (e.g. health and mental health, coaching, consulting, education, leadership) who seek to enhance their relational skills and pursue career advancement or transformation.

About this event

This event offers you the opportunity to engage in an inquiry-based process that reflects our teaching methodology. You will be interacting with fellow participants through activities designed to explore the potential of a gestalt approach to therapy and relating.

Previous participants said:

"The Discover Gestalt event was a delight. The idea of breaking the ice between participants by having various questions to discuss worked really well. I felt at home with everyone and we went so quickly from being strangers to an intimate sharing group.

It was a well-thought-out and well-crafted evening which seemed to reflect an organisation brimming with authenticity and wisdom. The representatives from Gestalt Therapy Australia shone out as inspiration for those of us whose first contact it was with the Gestalt world."

-- Amanda O.

“The Gestalt information night was a brilliantly facilitated, interactive & engaging, highly informative session in a warm, homely environment.

The content painted a picture of a training course which imparts deep truths aimed at the discovery of self, delivered with love & pure intent, in a group-learning and conversational mode unlike traditional academia, and which strikes at the heart of present state awareness.

The involvement of the student volunteers was invaluable and Tony & Eugenia did a superb job of leading the charge. Thank you for the opportunity to learn more about your wonderful offering.”

-- Dylan H.
