Discover Art Club - Nature in Art - May

In this 6 week course we’ll be exploring Nature in Art, exploring animals, plants, rainforest and so much more! This is a course for 7 to 11 year olds. Each session is from 10.30am to 11.30am on Sunday Mornings at The Art Place.

Each class is £7.50 - block booking only so £45.00 for the course.

We’ll be looking at the artist, Frieda Kahlo.

Kahlo who suffered from immense physical pain most of her adult life, after a road accident; she found freedom in painting. Kahlo was a pioneer of the naive folk art style and created beautiful paintings of nature and artefacts and of course her famous self portraits using symbolism to tell a story.

We’ll be exploring each of these themes: portraiture, nature and artefact to tell visual stories through different mediums. We’ll be painting canvases, creating collage and honing in on our observational drawing skills. In each session we will explore symbolism in one for Kahlo’s paintings and add symbolism to each of our own artworks.

What to wear: Please bring children in clothes you are ok them getting paint and glue on.

Fee: To avoid the Eventbrite Admin fee, please pay at the till at The Art Place or by BACS.

Arts Award:

Arts Award

You can enter your child into Discover Arts Award - they must complete around 20 hours of art lessons (three half terms) with us to get their Discover Arts Award that’s two terms and you only need to pay the £5 additional fee once.

Once children have completed Discover they can go on to complete Explore which requires an additional 24 lessons and a little work at home. Explore Arts Award is externally moderated. Children will have an Arts Log. Please let us know if you are considering this and we can discuss if your child is ready for it with you before signing up. Normally it is recommended that children are in Key Stage 2 (Year 3,4,5, or 6).
