About this Event
Reliable Recordings soundtracked New Zealand’s house explosion.
Between 1999 and 2004, the Auckland-based label released a string of stone-cold club classics including Calibre ’98, 19c Trumpet and Disco Hoopla.
It showcased the studio talents of Kiwis like Cuffy & Leon D, Soane, Jason “Rockpig” Hall, Greg Churchill and Roger Perry.
It welcomed those who chose to make Aotearoa home, people like Dick Johnson and Reed & Radley.
And it engineered collaborations with big-name international visitors such as Joshua, Rhythm Plate and Asad Rizvi.
In short it’s one of the most influential and important Kiwi labels of the last 25 years.
But its releases were never available digitally and have long been unavailable.
Until now.
Ahead of a label relaunch, Reliable mastermind Joost Langeveld has made the full catalogue available on Spotify, Bandcamp, Junodownload, Beatport and more.
Disco Hoopla celebrates the anthems, DJs and producers who created Reliable's legacy.
One generation has already fallen in love with their work, Now the next can do the same.
This is the first in a series of parties celebrating the label. Here's more about the line-up:
SUBWARE
Joost Langeveld and Jason "Rockpig" Hall are a dream combination of studio brilliance and DJ nous, reeling off a string of instant classics, including Disco Hoopla, Come On and My Affection. This exclusive reunion performance will feature live vocals from singers Jessy and Sandy Mill.
CUFFY & LEON D
Originally from Wellington, this trailblazing duo has a similar dynamic - with Cuffy grafting his innate knowledge of what rocks a dancefloor onto Leon's technical expertise. Like Subware they released a slew of big tunes, including Slyboom, Singalong and the international hit 19c Trumpet.
PHULLY
A mainstay of the infamous Normanby Rd warehouse raves, Phully provided a continuous DJ mix of the ground-breaking Algorhythms compilation, released through Kog Transmissions in 1999. He kickstarted his successful production career by contributing the opening track to its follow-up. After a spell ripping up dancefloors overseas, he's back rocking Aotearoa.
SANDY MILL
Sandy's super-smooth voice appears on too many tracks to mention. As well as Subware, collaborators have included Dick Johnson and various members of London's uber-cool Chillifunk imprint. She's a dab hand on the decks too, in hot demand for soulful sets at some of the more discerning venues around the City of Sails.
CHRIS REED
As half of Reed & Radley and Monkey Boots, Chris co-produced tracks - with Paul Radley - for Nottingham's highly-influential DiY Discs and New Zealand's Grass Green, as well as Reliable. He's also got a release on legendary techno label R&S on his CV. More than three decades since his first proper gig, he's more passionate about DJing and production than ever.
