Are you interested in deploying to support large disaster responses, like Hurricane Helene and Milton? The Los Angeles Red Cross Volunteer Services and Disaster Cycle Service team is hosting Just-in-Time Training sessions to build capacity for our Shelter Volunteers.
Please review the role and responsibilities of the sheltering volunteer:
The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate (SA) is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Sheltering Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.
Key Responsibilities (Responsibilities vary depending on assignment)
May include providing support to one or more of the following areas within the shelter:
- reception
- registration
- dormitory
- feeding
- information
- supply
- Provide excellent customer service to clients
Please also note that for deployments, volunteers must be available to travel for 14 days. Red Cross to cover depolyment travel related expenses.
