Join consulting climate scientist, Dr. Anne Waple, for a clinic on weather and climate in our region.This event will cover some basics of weather in our region, how to understand (and go deeper into) forecasts and trends, and how to prepare. We'll talk about our southern Appalachian mountain climate and touch on all the elements that matter when we're out in exposed locations: heat (and heat index), cold, lightning, rain, snow/ice, wildfire, etc. There will be plenty of time for Q&A and discussion too, so bring all your 'burning' questions!

Dr. Anne Waple is a consulting climate change scientist, working with clients from Amazon to small nonprofits. She spent over a dozen years with the federal government (NOAA), including as the Technical Director of the US National Climate Assessment. She’s lived in southern Appalachia for 28 years, in Maryville for the last three, and is a keen hiker, amateur naturalist, and snorkeler of the Little River when it’s not too cold.
