About this Event
The Disabled People's Archive (DPA) and North West Film Archive (NWFA) are hosting a free, disabled-led event to celebrate UK Disability History Month and the launch of DPA's new project. The event will be in the performance space at Manchester Central Library on Thursday 4th December, 12pm - 4pm.
The theme for this year's UK Disability History Month is 'Disability, Life and Death'. To focus on the 'life' aspect of this theme, we will spend the afternoon looking at the joy that comes from being in our Disabled community. There will be; a short presentation introducing the DPA's new project, a DPA object handling table, a creative group film-making activity, community lunch, a 'university challenge' for PhD students to show off their research in accessible ways, a relaxed film-showing, and other creative activities.
We will also be talking about the DPA's new project: "Accessing Our Hidden History". Funded through The National Heritage Lottery Fund, this project aims to showcase the DPA through a series of events, including educational workshops, archive sessions, and a community archive outreach programme.
We hope you can make it and come celebrate our Disabled History and Joy!
