Dirk and Amelia Powell are a daughter/father duo from Southwest Louisiana. Dirk is regarded as a champion of rural Americana, with a focus on his Appalachian heritage and his Cajun home. His emotional recordings have inspired a new generation of roots musicians and his original song “Waterbound” has been recorded over 100 times. Dirk has worked extensively with artists such as Joan Baez, Eric Clapton, Rhiannon Giddens, Levon Helm, and many more. Dirk’s daughter Amelia grew up in the bayous of Louisiana, immersed in the musical culture of her grandfather, Cajun fiddle hero Dewey Balfa. Her driving guitar and soulful vocals, as both a lead and harmony singer, have led to work in the studio, TV and film, and a wide array of performances around the globe. Together, they play music of their heritage, write and craft original songs, and bring audiences the kind of soulful connection that comes from family playing together with trust, humour, and love. Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms are known to roots music fans across the globe for their soulful harmonies, driving dance tunes, classic original songs, and commitment to the raw truth of rural American music. Both originally from Washington State, they made a home in Portland, Oregon, where they are foundational to the exceptional old-time and country music scene with the Caleb Klauder Country Band and their membership in the Foghorn Stringband, in which Caleb was a founding member. Charismatic performers, they bring their unique set of talents to the stage with an eye towards good times and an ear towards the deepest songs and tunes.
They have Shared the stage with; Peter Rowan, Marty Stewart, Vassar Clements, Doug Kershaw, Alice Gerard, Dirk Powell, Jesse Lege, and countless others.
Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms both originally hail from Washington State: Caleb from the coastal islands, and Reeb from the high desert plateau. The two have come together in music and are hailed as some of the most compelling musicians making country roots music in America today. When these two sing together, their honest incantations leave us spell-bound and smiling. repertoire is made up of original songs and tunes as well as gems from American roots repertoires. Music is clearly in their blood. Caleb and Reeb’s originals and interpretations of songs have been covered and recorded by many performers and their musical presence reaches into a diverse and loyal fanbase, giving creedence to the impact that this duo has on their listeners. Pillars of the Northwest music scene, they carry the torch of their music around the world, and can be found touring as a duo, as well as with the Foghorn Stringband, and the Caleb Klauder Country Band. Their fans exude admiration for the timeless sound that these two produce, capturing the essence of American roots music.
THERE SHE GOES: Amelia Powell and Annika Brooks have been playing traditional music together since they met at a music festival nearly 10 years ago. They formed their Old-Time and Acoustic Folk duo, There She Goes, in 2022, when Annika moved to Amelia’s home state of Louisiana. The pair grew up going to Cajun and Old-Time festivals, since the earliest years of childhood. They became fast friends over their shared love of music and the community it brings them.
Amelia comes from a deeply-rooted Cajun background in Southwest Louisiana. She has played locally and internationally in many bands and recorded on several albums including those of her group Amis Du Teche, Rhiannon Giddens, and with her father and mother, Dirk Powell and Christine Balfa. She has a rich musical background on both sides of her family, which can be heard in her powerful voice and unique guitar style.
Annika grew up in the Old-Time community in the Pacific Northwest, and has lived and played music all over the country while attending college for environmental science. Her love of the richly creative community she’s been part of has shaped who she is as a musician and as a person, and her love of music and life brings joy all who hear her play.
Annika and Amelia share their friendship and love for music and connection wherever they go.
