Story of Dinnerbell Road
Dinnerbell Road hails from the blue collar, rust belt town of Pittsburgh PA and plays music to reflect the realities of living in a place where dreams and opportunities can often be trampled by hard truths, hard liquor, and hard times. Originally formed in 2015 as an acoustic duo by founding member Cook McKoy, Dinnerbell Road originally set out to remind folks of what Country music really is by performing covers of Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr., Cody Jinks, and Sturgill Simpson, among others. Disgusted by mainstream country radio, Cook sat down and penned the song "Play Me A Song" which was a jab at some of the ludicrous music coming out of Nashville and being played on the radio. Due to some unintended and unexpected popularity of the song, Cook then set out to expand the band and focus on original music. In 2018, the EP "Play Me A Song" was released and was well received locally and garnered a few spins on local stations. In an ironic twist of events, Dinnerbell Road and "Play Me A Song" were featured live on one of the mainstream stations known for it's gut-wrenching mainstream Country pop formats. It seemed that these folks were oblivious to the song's message. In 2019, Dinnerbell Road came out with its first LP, "Rust Belt Revival" which featured a more Country Rock feel as the band began to find its true footing and sound and contained songs such as "Mr. Nashville Man" that discusses the struggles of an independent band trying to connect in a world where the gatekeepers only see dollar signs in a "pay for play" cesspool disguised as opportunity to "The Bossman" which is a rock/country murder ballad steeped in the tradition of unfaithful women and hard working men. In late 2022, the band released two new singles, "GO" and "Walk That Line", which are two hard hitting songs from the upcoming LP "Rust On The Rocks" to be released in the summer of 2025. In 2023, "Walk That Line" was awarded song of the year at the BandJam Grassroots Music Festival, Western PA's largest local music event and has been critically acclaimed in the Pittsburgh local music scene.
