Reservations are now being accepted for the Madison County Historical Society’s annual Dining in History (DIH) event. It will be held on Sunday, November 2 in the Leclaire Room at the Historic N. O. Nelson Campus of Lewis and Clark Community College in Edwardsville, Illinois. This year’s program will feature historian Cindy Reinhardt who will tell stories about some of the early families who came to live in Leclaire. The former Village of Leclaire (1890-1934) is a National Historic District which is today an Edwardsville neighborhood.
There will be immigrant stories, humorous anecdotes, stories of Leclaire military men and women, and, despite Leclaire being celebrated for its lack of crime, even the chronicle of a Leclaire murder. Most readers know the history of Leclaire, which will be briefly reviewed, but this program will highlight the human-interest stories which are at the heart of Leclaire.
In addition to the program, the afternoon will include a catered meal, provided by Bella Milano, and a brief membership meeting for the purpose of electing/re-electing MCHS Board members. There will also be a silent auction.
Tickets for DIH are $60 for MCHS members and $70 for non-members The public is invited to attend this event. Doors open at noon for a social hour before dinner which begins at 1 p.m. There is a cash bar.
Ticket reservations are available online at madcohistory.org or at the Madison County Archival Library at 801 N. Main Street in Edwardsville.
