Kia ora tātou. We're running more free computer classes for the early winter months of 2024, covering a range of popular topics!Each of our classes are one-day workshops running for two hours with a short intermission.
There are two timeslots per work, so for each topic you have the option of either a Wednesday evening class from 5:15 PM to 7:15 PM, or a Friday morning class from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

GOOGLE AND THE INTERNET
Wed May 22nd / Fri May 24th
A lot of us have Googled before, but do you know how to get the most out of your online searches? This class will cover the different components of the internet, the pros and cons of different browsers, the terminology of web addresses, links, image searches, Google maps, and copying and pasting text.
Skills to Have: Basic typing skills on a keyboard and (if you have a phone) your touchscreen.
What to Bring: Just yourself is needed but do bring your smartphone if you have one.
MANAGE MY HEALTH

With more essential services shifting to online-only, a lot of us folks feel left behind. That’s true for lots of things, but especially healthcare. This class on Manage My Health covers the mobile app and website, the benefits of using it, how to create and activate an account, making appointments, and a breakdown of all it’s various tools and displays.
Skills to Have: Just some basic familiarity with keyboards and your smart phone
What to Bring: Yourself and your smart phone. If you have an existing Manage my Health account, please remember your email and password to log in.
GOOGLE DRIVE
Wed June 5th / Fri June 7th
Ever tried to share a word document or a collection of photos, but emailing back and forth was too cumbersome? Google Drive can be a solution. This course provides an overview of what Google Drive is, how to upload, create, and share files, and some of the basics of using Google Docs for writing. It also covers file folders for organizing your work, and how to move files between them.
Skills to Have: None. This course walks you through creating a Google / Gmail account if you don’t already have one.
What to Bring: Your cell phone if you have one. If you already have a Google / Gmail account, bring the address and password.
GOOGLE DOCS
Wed June 12th / Fri June 14th
Need to write a word document but don’t have Microsoft Word at home? Want to access the same document on multiple computers and collaborate it with others? Google Docs makes it easy. This course gets you familiar with the interface, setting up pages, and working with text and images. If you’re familiar with Microsoft Word, some of that knowledge will transfer.
Skills to Have: Familiarity with logging into your Google / Gmail account. Otherwise, it’s designed for beginners. If you’re unfamiliar with Google Drive, our course on that topic complements this one, but isn’t a prerequisite.
What to Bring: A Google / Gmail account, with your address and password. Please bring your cell phone as well if you have one.
GOOGLE PHOTOS
Wed June 19th / Fri June 21st
If you have a smart phone or lots of photos, Google Photos can be a useful tool. We’ll explain and practice the differences between using it on a computer vs an Android or iPhone. After that we’ll work with uploading, organizing, editing, and sharing your photos, as well as the backup search functions.
Skills to Have: Familiarity with logging in to your Gmail / Google account.
What to Bring: A Gmail / Google account of your own. Bring your Gmail address, password, and cell phone.
INTRO TO DIGITAL BANKING
Wed July 3rd / Fri Jul 5th
With closures and reduced hours, banks have cut down on the option for face-to-face business. Online options promise convenience but can be scary. The class will give you skill to bank online with confidence. We’ll cover the benefits and terms, scams and how to dodge them, website and password security, transactions and managing payees, and free places to practice online.
Skills to Have: Basic familiarity with your smartphone and with keyboard use.
What to Bring: Your smartphone and email username and password. If you are already using a banking app, please remember your PIN to get in.
TRADE ME
Wed Jul 10th / Fri July 12th
Looking to buy and sell online? Trade Me is a convenient one-stop-shop for that. We'll go through the steps of creating an account, buying, or placing bids for items, and listing your own goods for sale. We'll also cover payment options and how to link cards as well. Afterward, we can walk through installing Trade Me on your phone.
Skills to Have: Familiarity with logging in to your email account.
What to Bring: Bring your email address and your password, as well as your cell phone.
ZOOM
Wed July 17th / Fri July 19th
Zoom is fast becoming the most popular option for video calls, both for work and for keeping in touch with friends and family. This course covers joining and leaving meetings, and changing the audio, video, and display settings. We also work with text chat, sharing your screen, and recording meetings.
Skills to Have: None, this course is designed for beginners.
What to Bring: You’ll need an existing email, so bring your address and password.
