Digital Skills 4 Girls is a monthly workshop for girls and non-binary people who want to learn or develop their digital skills.
About this Event
What should I expect?

From coding and gaming to digital design and video, DS4G is a friendly and supportive environment to learn new skills and meet new friends.

What will I learn?

You will get the chance to experience a range of digital disciplines, including 3D printing, coding, photography, video, design, web development, animation and much more!

Who will be there?

DS4G is aimed at girls and non-binary young people (recommended age 10 - 15), with a maximum of 16 attendees each month. You don't need to be a tech expert to come along or even have your own laptop. Just bring your enthusiasm and creativity and we'll supply the rest. Guided by a team of volunteer mentors, attendees will get the opportunity to work on different digital aspects of multiple exciting projects.

DS4G Stirling is kindly sponsored by CodeBase Stirling tenant CitNOW. CitNOW provides app-based video solutions enabling the automotive industry to create a more transparent, and easy, car buying and owning, experience. Find out more at .

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you need to know dietary requirements?

As food may be served at this event, we do ask for dietary requirements so we can try our best to cater to everyone. We usually serve snacks like biscuits, juice, water and fruits.

When signing up, why do you need to know the age of the child?

We ask for the age of the children to make sure that the activities planned are suitable for that age. We welcome everyone between the ages of 8 and 16 (recommended age 10 - 15) and asking the age ensures that we have a suitable activity for your child.

Why do you only allow girls to join this event?

It is our wish that all CodeBase events are LGBTQIA+ friendly.

From our experience, girls have expressed the need for a learning space of their own without boys. This event is open to girls and any young person who identifies as non-binary who would feel more comfortable learning about digital skills outside of a mixed-gender environment.

Initiatives like Women In STEM and this girl digital club are also a great way to ensure a better representation of girls and women in the STEM space.

F or boys (and everyone else) we have a Digital Skills 4 Everyone session running in the afternoon of the Stirling Science Festival. Head to thisiscodebase.com/events to find out more.

How old are the children attending?

The recommended age to attend Digital Skills 4 Girls is 10 - 15, however younger and older participants between the ages of 8 - 16 are allowed.

Do we need to bring a laptop or any other equipment?

We have a limited number of laptops available - in this case, sharing a laptop between two or three young people is common. If you'd prefer to work alone, it is recommended that you bring your own laptop.

Activities sometimes require additional equipment like headphones, cameras or microbits that we’re able to provide for the duration of the workshop.

My kid has never done coding before, can they still attend?

You don't need to be a tech expert to come along or even have your own laptop. Just bring your enthusiasm and creativity and we'll supply the rest. This is also not just about coding and programming as we aim to deliver a wide range of digital activities! Guided by a team of volunteer mentors, attendees will get the opportunity to work on different digital aspects of multiple exciting projects.

I’m a parent, can I stay around during the workshop?

We have limited space available but if space allows, you’re welcome to stay around!

I have concerns around accessibility.

When signing up to a Digital Skills 4 Girls workshop on Eventbrite, you will see a question prompt asking you if you’ve got any accessibility needs.

If for whatever reason, you’re not comfortable to fill out this box but there are any accessibility needs you'd like to make us aware of, regardless of what they are, please feel free to reach out directly to our Community Manager Lauren (she/her, [email protected]).

If you’d rather speak to someone on the phone, you can reach CodeBase Stirling reception on 01786 234 690.

Who are the mentors running the event?

It is CodeBase Stirling policy that all mentors working with young people are STEM Ambassadors, certified by Disclosure Scotland. There are occasions where a person who is considering helping at future events will assist and in this instance they are not certified. These people are not left unsupervised by a certified mentor at any point.

For our DS4G Stirling event, the mentors will be members from Team CodeBase: Lauren (she/her, Community Manager) and Rachel (she/her, Digital and Events Support). Both of them are STEM Ambassadors, certified by Disclosure Scotland.
