About this Event

Digital Renaissance: The Computer’s Role in Disney’s Animation Boom in the 1990’s

After a decade in decline, Disney Animation suddenly, almost over night exploded back in to the spotlight and, for the next decade, dominated the animation world. From The Little Mermaid to Tarzan, many people will still point to these movies as some of Disney’s best. There has been much talk and a plethora of reasons given for this animation renaissance, but there’s one reason that hasn’t - the rise of the computer in animation. What started as a tool to help the animators with the more mundane tasks eventually took over completely. But is that necessarily a bad thing?

Come hear Chris Fox, Campus Director for Friday Arts Project and Disney history aficionado, guide you through this era of Disney animation and see what, if anything, it has to say about art’s current relationship with technology.
