Digital Portrait Illustration: with EMELBI

Using The programme Procreate on the iPad*, EMELBI will take you through the process of making a portrait illustration from photographic beginnings.

Exploring the importance of using multiple layers when making digital illustrations, the building up of textures, colour use, the use of brushes and blending techniques and the value of observing light and how it falls across the face. There will be other tips, tricks and techniques regarding making your artwork pop.
*Please note: To take part on this course you must have your own iPad and a current version of Procreate downloaded and ready to use. Procreate requires iPadOS 15.4.1 or later.

*An Apple pen is useful but not essential. Other stylus makes are useful but again, not essential.

EMELBI works both digitally & traditionally.

With a strong emphasis on drawing, EMELBI creates digital images using a large amount of media such as pens, pencils, paints, inks, prints, discarded materials and found textures. He digitally construct and assemble his illustrations and graphics using an array of programs and apps on the iMac and iPad. His go to tools are Photoshop and Procreate. Blending traditional techniques with digital technology EMELBI is compelled to create on a day to day basis using words, drawings, photographs, music, sound, moving images and much more.

EMELBI has produced illustrative and graphic work for an array of clients over 23 years and loves each new creative challenge. He also travels around the country delivering fun and creative workshops to children and young people in all key stages. (Primary, Secondary and Further Education.

Minimum numbers apply for courses to run. Payment is due in full at the time of booking, either through the shop, phone or online. All sales are final unless transferring to another class in which a difference in price will be paid. Full refunds will be given if the courses cannot take place. Refreshments are available all day (tea, coffee, biscuits etc.) and there will be a lunch break of approximately one hour.

There are plenty of local shops and cafes in the area within close walking distance from the arcade.

Alternatively, you may bring your own lunch.

There is lift access to the studio on the second floor for those with mobility issues. Toilets are located close by on the studio level, however there is a small flight of stairs to access these. Alternatively there are also toilets located on one level on the ground floor.

The nearest car park available to the venue is the multi-storey next to Huddersfield bus station. All details are found on the link below. The cost of the car park is £2.00 for 3 hours (all levels) or £4.00 for 10 hours (upper two levels only). There is a lift access from the multi-storey car park for those with mobility issues.
