Digital Media and Communications for Community Groups

An opportunity to improve your organisation's comms skills & capacity to better tell your stories and reach your target audience.
About this Event

Digital media such as social media, websites and newsletters have become essential to most community groups and charities allowing them to connect with their communities, attract new donations, participants or volunteers and run their projects effectively.

Through the Hub's work with community groups, many have expressed a lack of capacity but a desire to learn more about digital communications to support their work. This hands-on workshop is designed to enhance knowledge and skills and show how you can apply a strategic approach to achieve your goals. This is the second time we are hosting the workshop, following the initial workshop in November which was oversubscribed.

The workshop is open to both staff and volunteers working at community groups and organisations or charities.

The topics that we cover are highlighted in the agenda. While the event will mainly focus on digital media, there will be some information on traditional media such as print and broadcast. These topics have been selected based on survey responses from community groups the Hub has worked with.

Please note you will not be asked to share anything about your current content or strategies unless you want to. You will be given the skills and resources that will allow you to reflect on current efforts and how you can best move forward. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

We will be using a video editing app for smartphones. Please bring along your smartphone with enough available storage to take a few videos and download an app.

Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day and a vegetarian lunch will be provided. Please indicate any dietary requirements in the registration form.

Please note that, due to limited space, there is a limit to 2 people per organisations.

Testimonials:

Participants at recent communications workshops have commented:

"Very interactive, tutor was very knowledgeable and content was excellent."

"Interactive, engaging and hands on. Lots of practical advice with ideas and knowledge we can implement. It was great that anybody could pick up the concepts without much comms experience"

Finding the Classroom in Castlebank Park:

The main car park is located a 5 minute walk uphill from the Centre. To avoid the hill, head out onto the main road and turn left up St. Patrick’s road and the first entrance on your left will be the Centre.

If you are unable to walk from the main car park to the Centre, there are 4 car parking spots available outside of the Centre. Please contact us on [email protected] if you require one of these spaces.

Accessibility at this venue:

Everyone is welcome. We know that it’s sometimes difficult for everyone to attend because of unintended barriers. We want to make any necessary adjustments to our events so that no one is excluded. For example, this could include assistance with physically accessing the workshop or help with an interpreter. These adjustments will differ from event to event and person to person, so we need your help to get it right. Please inform us of your accessibility requirements and questions by emailing [email protected].

Castlebank Park has accessible paths around the grounds and there is access to accessible toilet facilities at the venue.

Travel:

Castlebank Horticultural Centre is located in Castlebank Park which is 0.7miles (15 minute walk) from Lanark railway station.

Lanark High Street (approx. a 10 minute walk to the park) is well served with buses, you can plan your journey at Traveline Scotland

There is a bike rack outside of Castlebank Horticultural Centre.

A visitor car park is also available in the park.
