About this Event

This tour will be offered TWICE - Saturday, July 10th at 10am and Monday, July 12th at 4:30pm.

About the tour: Join us at Washington Park to explore the incredible history, landscape and architecture of one of Denver's oldest and most important open spaces. Walk along the 160-acre expanse of tree lined paths, lakes and woodland, dotted with historical pavilions, gardens and open space. Over the course of this tour, you will learn about the historical origins and present-day implications of the historic French country style landscape design, the blend of historic and contemporary architecture and each unique addition that has served to enhance the park over the past century.

About the park: Designed in 1899 by landscape architect Reinhard Schuetze, the park has been influenced by many other prominent figures in its evolution, including famous philanthropist Molly Brown.

About the tour guides: Laurel Raines is a Founding Principal and Landscape Architect at Dig Studio with experience designing public spaces. Coming from a background in environmental science, horticulture and art, Laurel has been motivated to make a difference by creating built environments that are at once beautiful, functionally responsive to the needs of people, reflective of context and environmentally sound.

Audrey Sorensen's unique project background and design experience supports her understanding of historical context, developing provocative preservation strategies and performing forward-thinking historical and environmental research. She has completed work in urban and rural contexts, in a variety of regions and scales. Audrey is a Landscape Designer at Dig Studio.

Please note: All attendees (including tour guide and DAF staff) will be required to sign a waiver of liability and answer a COVID-19 questionnaire prior to the in-person tour.
