About this Event
THIS IS AN ONLINE ZOOM CLASS
Class Description:
Home grown tomatoes picked fresh from the vine. Their flavor is like nothing you've had from the store, and not nearly as hard to grow in our low desert environment as you may think. If we plant with the planting calendar and follow some good horticultural practices you too can have such a harvest! Mmmmmm!
Participants will learn:
- Understand why the calendar suggests planting tomatoes when it does
- Learn criteria to select varieties and basic planting needs for tomatoes
- learn follow up care to grow heathy plants to bear a good crop
- begin to understand the weather and climate challenges in Phoenix
Presented by Master Gardener Pam Perry
Pam remembers planting tomatoes wither mum at when she was about 3 years old. Currently Pam is the Master Gardener volunteer who oversees the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension vegetable demonstration garden. For almost 20 years with the help from many master gardeners Pam has coordinated tomato planting and care at this site. Using planting calendars, thermometers and planting recommendations from accredited sources a diversity of tomato varieties have been planted; some with more success than others…. She has learned every season is different, and everyone has their own favorite varieties!
